The Story of the Kaufman Lion’s Club

The Kaufman Lions Club was Chartered July 17, 1928

LIONS CAMP

The Kaufman Lions Club has supported the Lions Camp in Kerrville, TX since 1952 when it was founded.

In 2011-12, I was president of the Kaufman Lions Club. I was familiar with the Texas Lions Camp even before that time  because I had two grandsons with disabilities who were offered the opportunity to attend.  Even though they were unable to go, I recognized the significance of such an amazing opportunity for children who are often excluded  from participating in so many areas of life, particularly recreation and socialization.  Even though we had supported the club financially for many years, most of us had never been there. Ever since then, a large group of us make an annual trek to Kerrville and serve the campers with a Friday evening “picnic”. I can’t express what it means to witness the children and their counselors in the camp setting.

The Texas Lions Camp is a gem for all Texas Lions. Its mission to provide, without charge, a camp for children with physical disabilities, diabetes and cancer from the State of Texas, regardless of race, religion or national origin. The goal of the camp  to provide an atmosphere, wherein children who have physical disabilities will be allowed to achieve maximum personal growth and self-esteem. It was founded in 1948! LIONS BASEBALL

The Lion Baseball program was started in 1947. We celebrated our 75th Anniversary in 2022. Over the years the Lions have contributed time and money to improve the facilities for Lion Baseball. This program not only provides the youth of our area to a quality baseball program, but the proceeds from the concession stand allows us to provide scholarships to deserving high school seniors.

LION GLASSES MISSION

Kaufman Lions have provided glasses for over 95 years to citizens of Kaufman and surrounding area.

MORE OF WHAT WE DO!

Over the years the Kaufman Lions Club has donated time and money to various projects from food baskets at Christmas, eggs for Easter egg hunts and school supplies for needy students. Supporting the schools by purchasing band uniforms and equipment in 1959, a piano in 1954, football uniforms, curtains for the stage as well as lighting in 1953. Collecting and donating clothing for Hurricane Buela victims in 1967. Over the years we continue to support many of the local charities that serve our area.

We are an active group of community members reaching out to better our community.
